Welcome to the Most Pure Heart of Mary Schola Cantorum

Probationer RehearsalThe Most Pure Heart of Mary Schola Cantorum is a ministry of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and parochial school in Topeka, Kansas.  The choir school is an after school music program in the cathedral music tradition that promotes the musical and spiritual development of youth within the context of the Roman Catholic liturgy, forming young Christians for the lifelong praise and worship of God.

As Blessed John Paul II so beautifully stated, "Training in singing, in singing in choir, is not only an exercise of the external hearing and voice; it is also an education of interior hearing, the hearing of the heart, an exercise and an education in life and peace.”

If your child or someone you know would like to be a member of the Schola Cantorum, please contact the music office.

The Schola Cantorum is placed under the patronage of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, patroness of our parish, and St. Joseph.  We ask that you join us in praying for the success of the Schola Cantorum.

St. Joseph, during your earthly life, you lovingly watched over and protected the glorious and ever Blessed Virgin Mary, and her Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.  We ask that now you would lead and guide the Most Pure Heart of Mary Schola Cantorum, dedicated to the same Virgin Mary.  May her members always worship God on earth with a pure heart, so that one day, with you and the Blessed Virgin Mary and the entire heavenly host, they may sing His praises forever in the heavenly liturgy. Amen.

Schola Cantorum Sings for the Kansas Red Mass 2012 PDF Print E-mail

On Thursday monring, February 9, the choristers of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Schola Cantorum arrived at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Topeka long before most of them are generally out of bed.  After traipsing up to the choir loft, practice began in ernest at 6:15 a.m. for the 2012 Red Mass for the State of Kansas (the Red Mass has a long history, going back to the 13th century in Paris, aptly named for the red vestments worn in honor of the Holy Spirit).  This Holy Mass is celebrated for all of the Catholic members of the law profession, including legislators, lawyers and judges.  Archbishop Joseph Naumann con-celebrated with Bishop Michael Jaekels of Wichita, Bishop John Brungardt of Dodge City, the administrator of the Salina diocese and Fr. Haberkorn, pastor of St. Joseph's.  I am pleased to say the choristers did a fantastic job!

Many of our legislators were present, including Governor Brownback and Lt. Governor Colyer of the great state of Kansas.  After Holy Mass the choristers had the priviledge of having their pictures taking with the governor and lieutenant governor.  Please view the pictures and a short video of the choir rehearsing the Kyrie before Mass.
